IT IS GOOD TO BE ALONE.
Friends, I know most of you are confused about being alone and being lonely so kindly follow me as I take us through our discussion today because not all lonely people are actually alone(secluded) and the reverse is true!
Look to begin with, I want you to know that am not saying
it’s good to be lonely but rather am only saying it’s good to be alone.
There is big difference between those two; being alone and
lonely, but what I would like us to discuss about today is the beauty of being
alone in this walk of salvation because there is a lot God is not free to do
with everyone and everything around you present to you. Great men who have
touched the world a certain way gave always cultivated the life of Solitude
(the art of being away from men to be present to God).
So today I would like to show us why it’s really important
to be alone in your walk with God; and believe me sometimes it gets a bit hard
for one to walk in "Solitude" because many a times as Glory and Honor
increases on our lives, the world starts recognizing what's on us and thus
starts puckering our private moments especially when you tend to become a
socialite because of your different successes and great achievements in life!
But saints, this however should never cause us to neglect our places of
strength; where we are actually made from!
It is in Solitude that greatness is formed in a man; humility,
self-control, and basically it's the place where we can be most honest about
ourselves to God for him to be able to deal with us in all His might!
It is in the places of Solitude that actually God
shows/reveals Himself to us as He is and we get to have encounters and great
and mighty experiences of Him. These later cause us to live distinctively in
the world and you can clearly attest to it that when you see such men who have
learnt the art of walking in Solitude, there is always something desirable
about them. Their star shines brighter!
Now from a lay man's understanding, we could say that
generally being alone is not a good thing because many depressions which later
bring about suicide deaths, actually come because a person lacked who to open
up to and walk with and all, but mind you, that's just being lonely and it’s
not what God is asking us to do here! No, but rather to learn to be a lone with
Him for Him to be able to help us; break us, kill us, mend us and teach us,
because all that is hard for God to achieve when we are not present to Him
because of the many affairs in the world we may be attending to!
A good example here could be David: he was able to fight and
kill Goliath because he had understood how being alone had made him brave and
strong. His secluded moments with His God far from his family while rearing the
sheep of his father and the victories he had there in with his God created a
heart of bravery which had no ounce of fear when it came to facing Goliath; who
in the face of all Israel was like a great terror and evil that they were never
gonna escape!
It was being alone with God that actually made David to
believe God the way he did.
It is being alone (in Solitude) that makes you stand where
people and all possible hypotheses disclaim your ability to and not fall!
David was able to believe God when alone. The solitude
experiences made Him see a face of God that no man had seen before which caused
Him to believe in Him a mighty way because God's heart was revealed to Him in
those moments! That is how he was able to look at Goliath as one who was
already defeated and totally nothing because of how greatly God had caused him
to deliver his father's sheep from the lions and bears before and so Goliath
was just another bear and lion whom God was soon delivering into his hands.
So here is a take home; understand that God’s mind for you
is to seek Him alone first! What am I saying? It’s really not bad to pray with
others and walk with others, no; what am only saying is "Seek God alone
and for yourself; know God for yourself!" You got to know God personally;
because after all your prayer in a group will only be effectual when you learn
to pray alone.
When you seek him alone, you stop to blame people and having
excuses for not praying or studying the word and all! Because you know it's for
your own good to know Him!
You can never know God if you have not cultivated a life of
Solitude; it’s impossible!
Being alone (in Solitude) connects you to God more than you
are connected to people. It synchronizes you with the Spirit of God; such that
you are able to know what God wants for His people; you are able to know His
perfect will regarding just about everything concerning you and his people!
God looks for and uses people who know Him personally.
I know you may be a pastor’s son or daughter but God wants
you know Him personally. Seek Him for yourself! Know Him for yourself.
Speak of the God that you know personally because then only
will you be confident and bold before anything like David was before Goliath!
God’s desire it’s for you to know Him personally and
intimately.
God is interested in what you call him not what others call
him. That is why Jesus asked his disciples in Matthew 16,"Who do you say I
am?" Because it is in these solitude moments that God's name is defined to
you; that you may profess and talk of the God you really know!
The problem we are facing in many churches today is that we
want the God of others yet that is not God’s mind. He wants us to take time and
understand who He really is on our own and then worship Him who we truly know;
that is when only we can worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 8).
God wants you to give him a name by which only you and Him
understand when you say that name! And please don't get me wrong here, am not
saying it’s wrong to know the God of our forefathers or those who have gone
ahead of us in the Faith, but rather I want you to end up connecting to God
through the revelation of other people's God! May you after studying about the
God of Abraham feel after your God more and more and may that cause you to seek
and hunger for Him the more!
You can never demonstrate or call on the God that you don’t
really know(intimately)! Because He won't answer at times because He seeks for
a relationship not a duty! He wants you to fall in love with Him as you get to
know Him more intimately!
We know God when we seclude ourselves, because then only
will we establish a relationship with Him where we can know and hear His voice
even when in a multitude of people!
God is looking for people who can be alone with Him and get
to know Him more intimately.
He wants you to know to Him intimately but the only place
you can know Him in that way, is when you have mastered the art of being alone!
God wants you alone with Him, because its then you will
understand that it is Him worth seeking and not men!
Ayaaa! Meaning if you have never been alone (in Solitude)
you can seek men in the name of seeking God, ehh!
This is the mind of Christ pertaining the church; that He
may cause people to hunger for Him and find Him in the places of Solitude.
If your Pastor or your Prophet or Evangelist can’t lead you
to that place of being alone (in Solitude), then there is something wrong!
Because that is the primary place of our men of God; they must minister to us
and usher us into these places of Solitude with our God!
God can reveal himself to you in your solitude moments.
And remember this that when God calls you, He doesn’t call
you with your Aunt, Mum, Pastor or anyone else but rather He calls you alone to
Himself!
There is power in being alone.
God wants you alone.
