Who are you?

I understand and could even bet on this that people probably have a lot of answers pertaining this question, some of which could be right biblically or far from truth; but seriously, regardless of other people's opinions and scopes of understanding I would like you to just be a little honest with yourself today and answer this question," Who are you?".

What I would like to bring out is beyond your name; I know you probably are called Bruce or Sandra or just any other name by which men call you but still what really makes you you[H1] ? What makes you the Bruce they call you and different from other Bruces in the world? You know, I want us to just go beyond the surface of the question, "Who are you?", but rather get deeper to what it entails and the right way it should be perceived each time that question pops up! Like it or not, these are the things that will put a distinction on your person(spirit) after you have understand the scope of our discussion today. And ohhh, you are really gonna love this!

The gospel of Matthew 7:3-5 says, 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 Your hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Haha, wow! This scripture clearly shows us and emphasizes already the urgency of us answering the big question concerning who we truly are, because it actually lays out before us what we actually look like before, when we spend time knowing others and how others prefer to know us as and forget to first go on the big quest of finding out who we truly are which is beneficial to both us and them!

Lemme just ask you a little question, “When was the last time you spent time with self? When was the last time you made decisions by on your own without anyone else implicating their own view of the issue?

When did you even have a simple but honest conversation with yourself?

When was the last time you talked to yourself?

Understand that the reason why am asking all these questions is because, one major problem I have seen in most of our societies is that, it’s almost as though everyone wants to know everyone save for them; they wanna know everyone apart from themselves!

So I would like to help you understand the importance of knowing yourself first; because when you know yourself, you become aligned to your destiny as a child of God and then what? You are able to walk in that power comes because you know who you really; the child of God, born of an incorruptible seed, which is the word of God (1Peter 1:23)!

And guess what? The saddest part in all this is that we get to take different identities based on what others have said we are or basically on the opinions of men, because we have not taken time to really understand who we are. So why go through all this trouble anyway?

You tend to find that many people actually prefer waiting for the special man of God to tell them who they are instead of finding out for themselves!

But guess what, I have good news for you if you really want to know who you are.

The book of 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever."

In this scripture, we could clearly see that, if you are born again you have been born of the word of God, which is incorruptible. And this portion of scripture right here rightly defines our destiny, which in turns answers our question about who we are!

It’s through the word that we know who we are! Why? Because we are born of it and so that has every reason to define us!

And hey, you don’t need to wait for the special of man of God to tell you who you are, no! You have the word of God with you; just look into it and as you study to show yourself approved of God, you already have understood yourself; your real nature and that will lay out the way of your life. Glory to God... Isn't this so wonderful friends?!

And one more thing, understand that salvation is personal. It’s a walk you get on built and sustained on the relationship you carry with your savior and not your pastor's personal relationship with God!

Philippians 2:12-13 says “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

If everybody obeyed this pattern of firstly investing time in knowing themselves, the world couldn't have the problems that we see today.

So, my piece of advice to you is this; if you want to help solve those

problems, kindly invest time in knowing yourself and when you know, you will also know God and then won’t wait for anyone to define you.

Listen, God is interested in working with people who know themselves.

This is the very reason why you find in interviews this question being asked many times, “who are you?”

Why do they ask? This is because they want to see if the person they want to employ even honestly knows themselves and is confident about who they are; that is the kinda person really they need! Because they don't need to go through the burden of paying the price to make you know you; you are full package!

So back to where we started from, “Are you the kind who spends time knowing others when they don’t even know who they are? Or you are the kind who loves and is really interested in knowing themselves first?

Take time to know who you are today! This will save you much trouble with both man and God.

And remember this, “God works or uses people who know who they are!"
